I grew up in rural County Cork, where weekend walks through
the Blackwater Valley became my second language. That's
where my passion for Irish landscapes started — just family,
fresh air, and muddy boots.
After finishing my degree in Geography at University College
Cork in 2010, I didn't sit in an office right away. Instead,
I spent three years with the Irish Wildlife Trust mapping
biodiversity across coastal and inland regions. Walking
became research. Every path taught me something new — how
terrain changes, where water pools in winter, which routes
stay manageable in bad weather.
I've been writing about walking routes since 2014. What
started as freelance guidebook work became my full-time
focus when I joined Caherlode Ltd in 2019. Over the past
five years, I've personally walked over 500 miles of Irish
trails, tested waterproof gear in actual Irish rain, and
worked with local tourism boards along the Wild Atlantic
Way. I'm certified in navigation by Ordnance Survey Ireland,
which means I know how to read those maps properly — and how
to help others do the same.
My focus is simple: help people find walks they'll actually
enjoy. Whether that's a half-day loop near Dublin for
someone with limited fitness, a dog-friendly coastal route
near Galway, or a challenging waymarked trail through the
green hills of Cork. Every walk should feel achievable and
rewarding.
